Akhil Sharma at UA

Award-winning Indian-American author Akhil Sharma will visit UA on October 11. He will present a reading in Gorgas Library at 7:30 that evening.  His first novel, An Obedient Father (2000), won the Pen Hemingway Award and the Whiting Award. His second novel, Family Life (2014) won the Folio Prize (the most lucrative literary award for a single book), and the Dublin Prize. He’s been an NYPL fellow and a Guggenheim Fellow. His most recent book is A Life of Adventure and Delight, (2017) a volume of short stories, including some previously published ones. One of his earlier short stories, “Cosmopolitan,” was adapted as a movie featuring Roshan Seth and Carol Kane. His work has been widely translated and anthologized. He is also a professor at Rutgers Newark, a graduate of Princeton, a former Stegner Fellow at Stanford, and he holds a J.D. from Harvard Law.
