On Sept. 24, UA will host Dr. Jolyon Thomas, who researches popular culture in Japan, including anime. At 7:00 pm in Smith 205, he will present a lecture that investigates the interplay between animated music videos, figurines, and other merchandise with the vitality of temples commonly identified as Buddhist. In addition to his evening lecture, he will have a conversation with students interested in the study of Asia at 2:00 (Anderson Room, Ferguson Center 3rd floor). His visit to campus is sponsored by the Department of Religious Studies and its Day Lecture series.
