“In Search of Standard Mandarin in Modern China” will be a public roundtable featuring two guest scholars, Janet Chen from Princeton University and Robert Culp from Bard College. They will be discussing how textbook editors, linguists, and educators tried to standardize Mandarin when it was in the infancy of its formation.
The event will be at 7:00 pm in Gorgas 205 on Monday, October 10. The event has received support from the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, the Department of History, the Asian Studies Program, and University Libraries.
